Today I will testify to the prosecutor's office about how my abduction happened and what preceded it, who participated in this operation. I know who was the organizer from the Azerbaijani side, – said the Azerbaijani journalist Afgan Mukhtarli.
“Today I will testify in the prosecutor’s office about how my abduction took place and what preceded it, who participated in this operation. I know who was the organizer from the Azerbaijani side. I also know that from the Georgian side it was organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Security Service, the Border Guard Service and the head of the customs post in Lagodekhi. I will show the place of the abduction, as well as how I was brought to Azerbaijan and where I was abducted from. I could see half of the road through the holes in the bag on my head, ”Mukhtarli said.
The Azerbaijani journalist noted that he did not know the names of the abductors, but could identify them from their photographs. According to him, he will stay in Tbilisi for 10-15 days.
Azerbaijani journalist Afgan Mukhtarli disappeared from Tbilisi on May 29, 2017 and was arrested in Azerbaijan the next day.
In January 2018, an Azerbaijani court sentenced Mukhtarli to six years in prison on charges of smuggling large amounts of foreign currency and resisting law enforcement agencies.
He was released from prison in March 2020.
