Badri Japaridze, a leader of the coalition Strong Georgia, accused the ruling Georgian Dream party on Thursday of carrying out sabotage against the state and warned that its actions were hastening the party’s political demise.

Japaridze added recent moves by the Government, including prosecutions of opposition figures, amounted to politically motivated actions executed through the prosecutor’s office. He accused the ruling party of undermining the country and of attempting to destroy political opponents rather than addressing real problems.

“This is the prosecution carrying out a political assignment. The aim is to destroy politicians, to destroy politics. But I believe that by doing this Georgian Dream is accelerating its own political burial, because the reality is that Georgian Dream is engaging in state sabotage and our task is to oppose that sabotage by peaceful and political means”, he said.

Japaridze framed his and his allies’ efforts as defensive measures to protect the state from what he called deliberate harm and vowed to confront the Government’s actions through political and nonviolent channels.
