Police in Georgia's Adjara region have arrested a previously convicted individual on charges of fraud involving a large sum of money, the Interior Ministry said.
The investigation found that the suspect allegedly deceived a citizen by claiming they could assist with the purchase of an apartment in Batumi and arrange renovation works. In exchange, the suspect is accused of unlawfully obtaining nearly 171,000 lari from the victim through a series of payments.
The suspect was arrested as a defendant following operational measures carried out by law enforcement officers and on the basis of a court warrant, the ministry said.
The investigation is being conducted under Article 180 of Georgia's Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
