Two Azerbaijani citizens arrested in Georgia’s Batumi on drug charges

Police in Georgia’s Black Sea resort city of Batumi have arrested two Azerbaijani citizens on charges of illegally purchasing and possessing particularly large quantities of narcotic and psychotropic substances, Georgia’s Interior Ministry said on Sunday.

The body added officers from the Adjara Main Division of the Central Criminal Police Department detained the suspects in separate operations in Batumi. During searches of the suspects’ temporary residences, law enforcement officers seized particularly large quantities of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances allegedly prepared for sale. The substances included methadone, pregabalin and dried marijuana, the Ministry said.

Police also confiscated materials allegedly used for packaging narcotics.

The crime is punishable by up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
