A Ukrainian citizen has been detained in Batumi on suspicion of illegally possessing and facilitating the distribution of a particularly large quantity of drugs, Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia said.

The suspect, identified by the initials D.N. and born in 2005, was arrested by officers from the Adjara division of the Central Criminal Police Department.

A search of the suspect’s temporary residence led to the seizure of a particularly large quantity of methadone, allegedly prepared for sale. Police also recovered materials used for packaging drugs.

If convicted, the offences carry a potential sentence ranging from up to 20 years in prison to life imprisonment, authorities said.
