Giorgi Ramishvili, Georgian businessman and founder of several major companies including Silk Road Group, Silknet, and Euronews Georgia, has been arrested.

The news was first reported by TV channel Pirveli and later confirmed to Radio Liberty by Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the ministry’s press center, Ramishvili was detained under Article 236 of the Criminal Code, which relates to the illegal acquisition, possession, carrying, or manufacture of firearms.

The charges carry a possible sentence of up to two years in prison, a fine, or house arrest for a period ranging from six months to two years.
