The US Department of Defence has approved the transfer of long-range Tomahawk-type cruise missiles to Ukraine, but deliveries will not begin until President Donald Trump gives the final go-ahead, CNN reported on Friday.

According to US officials cited by the outlet, the Joint Chiefs of Staff informed the White House that sending Tomahawks to Kyiv would not unduly deplete US stockpiles. That assessment - delivered on October 17, shortly before Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy - encouraged Washington’s European partners, who had been pressing for the weapons.

CNN sources say the administration has already prepared a rapid-delivery plan that could be activated if Trump orders the shipment.
