The de facto authorities of Georgia’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia region on Friday closed the only checkpoint connecting the region to the rest of Georgia, located at Enguri bridge, without making explanations.

Locals said the so-called border guards had not allowed residents of the occupied region to enter the territory controlled by the central government, while those who are currently in this territory, are able to return to Abkhazia from the Samegrelo region.

The de facto authorities have not released any official information about the movement restrictions with the rest of Georgia. The State Security Service of Georgia has not yet commented on the unilateral closing of the Enguri bridge.
