The de facto authorities of Georgia’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia region said they were “ready” to resume meetings with the central Georgian Government on conflict issues, known as the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) format, which has not been held since 2018.
“The Abkhaz side has prepared another package of proposals to update the IPRM format. I hope that our current proposals will find an appropriate response in Georgia and we will be able to work in this format,” the de facto Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Irakli Tuzhba, said.
He claimed the de facto Government saw the format as “quite important”.
The IPRM, along with the Geneva International Discussion Format, was created after the Russia-Georgia August 2008 war.
The co-chairs in the formats are the representatives of the European Union, OSCE and the United Nations. The representatives of the Government of Georgia, USA, Russia and the occupation regimes participate in the meetings.
Aslan Bzhania, the de facto Abkhaz President, last week praised the current Georgian Government for its “pragmatic policies”.
