The so-called “Foreign Minister” of the Russian-occupied region of Abkhazia, Oleg Bartsits, stated in an interview with Russian media that the "Georgian establishment’s" desire for Abkhazia to return to Georgia’s jurisdiction is a 'utopia'.

When asked why occupied Abkhazia and Georgia have not signed a non-use of force agreement, Bartsits said that “phantom pains” within the Georgian leadership have not been overcome.

“This is the result of the fact that the Georgian leadership’s phantom pains have still not been overcome. A significant part of the Georgian establishment still wants Abkhazia to return under Georgia’s control. This is a utopia,” Bartsits said.

He further added that “some sober-minded politicians in Georgia already understand that Abkhazia will not return, but they do not say this out loud.”
