Death toll climbs to 36,000 in Turkey, Syria quake

More than 31,000 people have died in a series of earthquakes in Turkey starting from Monday, while above 158,000 have been evacuated from the affected regions.

According to official information, 31,643 people died in Turkey, 4,574 in Syria. Five citizens of Georgia are among those who died in Turkey.

More than 12,000 hardware and 35,495 rescuers are working in Turkey, including 9,793 from foreign states, among whom 100 are Georgians.

 

Since February 6, two strong earthquakes of magnitude 7.8 and 7.6 have been recorded in Turkey, as well as 2,724 aftershocks.
