Starting today, Tbilisi Metro’s Varketili station will be closed for 45 days as part of an extensive rehabilitation project, the Tbilisi City Hall has announced.
The renovation involves cleaning and treating the corroded and damaged ceiling surfaces, filling and reinforcing the voids behind the arch with appropriate technical solutions, and sealing temperature joints to prevent underground water leakage. In addition, cast iron support elements in the station's inclined escalator tunnel will undergo structural repairs.
Once these technical procedures are completed, finishing and decorative work will resume, which is expected to be finalized by autumn of this year.
To ensure uninterrupted passenger flow during the closure, a temporary municipal bus route No. 174 has been introduced. The bus will run in a circular route between Samgori metro station’s upper exit and the vicinity of Varketili station, operating every 3 minutes during peak hours.
Tbilisi Transport Company has apologized for the inconvenience caused by the temporary closure and assured residents of alternative transit arrangements.
