Officers of the Rustavi City Division of the Kvemo Kartli Police Department under Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs have arrested one person on charges of fraud involving a large amount of money.
The investigation found that the suspect promised several citizens that he would import vehicles from Japan on their behalf. In exchange, he allegedly received a total of USD 4,900 and GEL 42,110 from the victims.
Investigators said the funds were unlawfully appropriated and that the suspect failed to fulfill the promised obligations after receiving the money.
The accused was arrested following operational measures and investigative actions carried out by law enforcement officers.
The crime carries a penalty of up to nine years' imprisonment.
