Dimitri Samkharadze, Regional Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, has reacted to the arrest of former Deputy Economy Minister Romeo Mikautadze, who is accused of abuse of power and money laundering by the State Security Service’s Anti-Corruption Agency.
Samkharadze expressed outrage over the allegations, stating:
"You’re fighting internal and external threats, trying to maintain peace in Georgia, strengthen the country, defend its independence and sovereignty — and at the same time, some petty official decides to make money?! Where does that happen, seriously?"
He emphasized that everyone is equal before the law, especially politicians, and that anyone involved in wrongdoing will be held accountable.
"No one should expect protection. Everyone who’s ever been involved in anything will face consequences. The law applies equally to all, and especially to politicians. Today, Georgia is governed by professionals — honest and clean people. We will not allow anyone to stain our reputation," Samkharadze wrote on social media.
