Polish authorities are investigating after a drone crashed and exploded overnight in the country’s east during Russia’s latest wave of drone strikes on Ukraine.

The incident occurred in a cornfield near the village of Osiny, local media reported. No casualties were reported, though several houses sustained broken windows from the blast. Burnt fragments of metal and plastic were found at the site.

Poland’s Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said police, military police and territorial defence forces were deployed to secure the area.

The sources cited by the newspaper Rzeczpospolita said the downed aircraft was believed to be of Russian origin and may have been either a Shahed-type drone or a decoy device used to confuse air defences. Officials said the exact model would be determined by late Wednesday.
