The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ruled that 370 individual lawsuits filed against Georgia over the Russia-Georgia 2008 war were inadmissible, Georgian Justice Minister Rati Bregadze stated today.

He said that the lawsuits were filed by the residents of Georgia’s currently Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region through coordination with the occupier.

“The court shared the arguiments provided by the Georgian side that the Tskhinvali region was actively bombed by Russia during  the war and that the Georgian armed forces did not exercise control over the region and the surrounding area,” Bregadze said.

He stated that after the judgment only 154 complaints against Georgia will be discussed in the Strasbourg-based  court ‘which is the lowest figure since Georgia’s membership in the Council of Europe.’
