Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during her official visit to Baku, the Georgian Economy Ministry said on Friday.

The meeting reaffirmed the “strong neighbourly ties” and strategic partnership between the two countries. Kvrivishvili expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijani side for its “continued support” of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders, the Ministry press office said.

The officials further discussed ways to enhance cooperation across various sectors to promote stability and development in the South Caucasus. Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening economic and trade relations, with attention given to key bilateral and regional initiatives.

Among the highlighted projects were the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway - now in its final phase - and the planned energy cable, both expected to boost transit potential and deepen energy cooperation. Officials noted the positive impact of the strategic ventures on attracting investment in sectors such as green energy, logistics, information technology, and telecommunications.

The meeting additionally covered global and regional security challenges, highliting the importance of peace and stability in addressing them.

Georgian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Zurab Pataradze, was also present at the meeting.
