Several opposition parties, including the United National Movement opposition party, European Georgia, Girchi More Freedom and Droa have agreed to nominate joint majoritarian candidates for city assemblies in 315 of 664 majoritarian constituencies around the country.
They believe that ‘through joint efforts’ the defeat of the Georgian Dream ruling party will be easier in the October 2 municipal elections.
The parties have also nominated joint mayoral candidates for Tbilisi and other cities.
The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party says based on its own polls that they will receive up to 47-48 percent of total votes in the elections, while its candidates for mayors will be victorious in all constituencies.
The opposition says that the ruling party is ‘cheating the people’ by the polls, otherwise they would not have backed out of the April 2021 EU-mediated agreement which obliged the ruling party to accept the conduct of repeat parliamentary elections if the GD received less than 43 percent of votes in the municipal elections.
The opposition is still hopeful that the GD will have to hold the repeat parliamentary elections.
