The death toll from a collision involving high-speed trains in Spain has risen to 39, with at least 170 people injured, local authorities said.

According to reports, the condition of 15 of the injured is described as critical.

The incident occurred in southern Spain, near the city of Córdoba. A high-speed train traveling from Málaga to Madrid, carrying approximately 300 passengers, derailed before colliding with another high-speed train traveling in the opposite direction from Madrid to Huelva.

Emergency services responded to the scene, and rescue operations were launched to assist passengers and evacuate the injured.
