The European Union (EU) has approved a fifth package of sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, CNN has reported, citing France which currently holds the presidency of the Council of Europe.
The new package includes a ban on the import of Russian coal and an embargo on arms exports to Russia. In addition, sanctions include closing Russian ports to Russian ships and banning the export of high-tech products to Moscow, CNN said.
The news agency says that the official document, which also includes the names of sanctioned oligarchs, those involved in Russian propaganda, members of the security and military services and others will be released tomorrow.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.
Ukraine is demanding arms from the West to fight against Russia, claiming that if the weapons are provided, the war would be contained in Ukraine.
