European Council Pres. Michel arrives in Ukraine: “in the heart of a free, democratic Europe”

European Council President Charles Michel has arrived in Ukraine, posting a photo from a Kyiv metro station earlier today with an inscription: “in the heart of a free and democratic Europe.” 

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24. 

Hostilities have been in progress since then. 

Kyiv stated today that an agreement has been reached with Russia to evacuate civilians from the most-affected city of Mariupol.
