The European Parliament has issued a statement declaring that Georgia cannot join the European Union unless its government reverses its authoritarian trajectory.

In a resolution passed today, the Parliament affirmed its support for the Georgian people but stated it does not recognize the current Georgian government. Lawmakers emphasized that Georgia’s EU integration is "effectively suspended" until free and fair elections are held.

“The European Parliament stands with the Georgian people,” the official account posted on X, underscoring the EU legislature’s firm stance against democratic backsliding in the country.

This follows mounting criticism from Brussels over recent Georgian legislation and actions deemed incompatible with European values.
