A scientific study by Nikoloz Labartkava, pediatric cardiologist at Jo Ann University Hospital and lecturer at the European University in Tbilisi, has been published by Cambridge University Press in Cardiology in the Young, one of the leading international medical journals in the field of pediatric cardiology.

The article, titled “Hybrid procedures in the management of hypoplastic left heart syndrome,” is the first Georgian-authored scientific publication in pediatric interventional cardiology to appear in a globally recognized, high-impact journal dedicated to children’s heart diseases.

Labartkava’s research focuses on innovative hybrid techniques used in treating hypoplastic left heart syndrome - a rare and severe congenital heart defect requiring complex, staged interventions early in a child’s life.

Labartkava worked in Italy as part of an international master’s program in cardiology, based at the University of Bergamo (Università degli Studi di Bergamo) and the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital in Rome (Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù).
