Ex-Georgian Ambassador to France fined for ‘road blockage’ amid protests against halted EU integration

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has issued a 5,000-GEL fine to Eka Siradze, Georgia’s Former ambassador to France, for “blocking a road” this week amid protests against the Government’s decision last year to halt EU integration until 2028.

In her press comments, Siradze claimed she was merely standing on the sidewalk near the parliament building and conversing with a friend when the alleged violation took place. “When I arrived at the parliament, the road was already blocked. I was standing on the sidewalk and talking to a friend… They told me that you were probably identified through photos,” she explained.

Expressing her belief that the fine is politically motivated, Siradze urged others to contest similar penalties. “I think it is a punitive measure – they punish everyone who does not obey. I call on everyone to appeal,” she said.
