The For Georgia opposition party, recently founded by ex-PM under the Georgian Dream (GD) leadership Giorgi Gakharia, has congratulated the GD on the ‘resurgence’ of the United National Movement (UNM) opposition party which was ‘ completely discredited’ eight months ago.
The party says that in order to create problems for For Georgia the GD supported the strengthening of the UNM which was defeated by the GD back in 2012, following a scandal of torture and inhume treatement of priusoners and mass illegal surveliance.
For Georgia, which came third after the GD and the UNM in the proportional race of municipal elections yesterday with more than 7 percent of votes, thanked its voters and vowed they will defend votes.
Gakharia also came second after the GD and the UNM candidates in the race for Tbilisi mayor.
The ex-pm has been demonised by the GD after he resigned back in February 2021 and also left the ruling party.
He resigned due to the disagreement with the ruling party on the issue of the UNM leader Nika Melia.
Gakharia believed that Melia’s arrest during the election-related political crisis would have further complicated the tension.
