Ex-PM Gakharia’s party member elected a head of Tsalenjikha city assembly

Former PM Giorgi Gakharia’s For Georgia party member Korneli Salia has been elected a new head of Tsalenjikha city assembly in western Georgia.
The city assembly in one of seven city assemblies across the country where the ruling Georgian Dream party was unable to gain the majority.
The process of electing a new head of city assembly in Tsalenjikha has been delayed due to controversies between the parties presented there, and Salia was elected only at the sixth gathering of the assembly earlier today.
The ruling party has accused the For Georgia of making a coalition with the United National Movement opposition and refused to attend the vote.
Salia says that he will cooperate with all parties, including the ruling party ‘as it concerns the interests of Tsalenjikha.’
He was elected by 14 votes in the 27-member city assembly in which the ruling party occupies 11 seats, the UNM – also 11 seats, For Georgia – three seats, Lelo – one seat and the remaining one is an independent member.
The ruling party was able to form a majority in city assemblies of 56 municipalities of total 64.
