Former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, who was arrested in Tbilisi late yesterday, has announced he ‘started a new life and a family’ with 31-year-old Ukrainian MP Liza Yasko.
The couple appeared in a video, recorded before Saakashvili’s departure to Georgia ahead of Georgian municipal elections, yesterday.
Yasko has described Saakashvili as a hero, ‘devoted to his country.’
Saakashvili until now has been officially married to Sandra Roelofs.
They have two sons Eduard and Nikoloz and have not announced their divorce officially.
Roelofs has also responded to Saakashvili’s return to Georgia after eight years and his arrest, praised him and encouraged Georgians to support the ex-president in his goals.
Saakashvili, who is convicted in Georgia, says he has returned to ‘save the country’ from the current Georgian Dream leadership.
He says that winning today’s municipal elections by the United National Movement opposition, the party which was founded by him, will be a step taken for a bigger victory – the change of authorities via early parliamentary elections.
