Georgia’s fifth President, Salome Zourabichvili, said she had a substantial conversation with Germany’s Minister of State for European Affairs, Gunther Krichbaum.

In a social media post, Zourabichvili noted that Krichbaum expressed strong support for the Georgian people and emphasized that Georgia is at a critical crossroads.

“Only its citizens can protect the country’s European path,” he stated, according to Zourabichvili.

The conversation comes amid heightened tensions between Georgia’s government and the European Union over democratic backsliding and potential threats to the country’s visa-free regime with the EU.
