Ex-PM Giorgi Gakharia’s For Georgia political party says that the Georgian Dream (GD) government may arrest former deputy head of Georgia’s State Security Service (SSS) Aleksandre Khojevanishvili for the case of recently ‘leaked files’ on clerics and politicians.
Aleksandre Khojevanishvili is a brother of For Georgia party member, former MP Giorgi Khojevanishvili.
The statement comes on the heels of Georgian PM’s expressed suspicion that Gakharia and Khojevanishvili, ‘who had access to classified information’, could also be linked with the case.
For Georgia says that the party has become a target of attack from both the ruling party and the opposition for its ‘high and increasing rating.’
The party, along with parliamentary Lelo – Partnership for Georgia faction, has called for the creation of a temporary parliamentary investigation commission on the leaked files case, with the involvement of foreign experts and Ombudswoman Nino Lomjaria.
On Monday Georgian media outlets received a link to up to 30,000 files which have been allegedly leaked from SSS.
The Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the case.
The ruling party and Garibashvili initially accused only the United National Movement opposition party of spreading the files ‘which are allegedly fabrication.’
The files mostly contained compromising materials on clerics.
