Irakli Kobakhidze has received a condolence letter from Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais following the death of Ilia II.

In the message, the Secretary-General of UN Tourism expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Patriarch and extended sincere condolences to the government of Georgia and its people.

Ilia II was described as a “deeply respected spiritual leader” whose nearly five decades of dedicated service left a lasting mark on the country and all those inspired by his wisdom, compassion and commitment to peace.

“On behalf of UN Tourism and myself, I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to you, your government and the Georgian people at this time of great loss,” the letter said. It added that the Patriarch would be remembered not only for his spiritual leadership, but also for his contribution to Georgia’s cultural and moral foundations, and for upholding values such as unity and compassion.

The message concluded with an expression of solidarity with the Georgian people and a tribute to “a truly distinguished figure whose legacy will endure for generations.”
