The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party has accused the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) NGO ‘of staging a revolutionalty scenario on behalf of the opposition’ ahead of the October 2 municipal elections.

GD head Irakli Kobakhidze says that GYLA’s constitutional lawsuit on specifying borders for election constituencies two weeks before the elections is ‘what the opposition wants and is nonsense.’

GYLA says that it isn’t fair for large and smaller constituencies to elect the same number of candidates.

Kobakhidze says that the opposition ‘has no chances’ to win the elections and is now engaged with creation of ‘artificial problems and sparking tension with the help of some NGOs.’
