The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party claims that the United National Movement (UNM) opposition is discussing the possibility of hiring killers to spark tension in an ‘extremely calm’ pre-election environment.
GD head Irakli Kobakhidze stated at a special briefing earlier today that the UNM is ‘very much concerned with the calm situation in the country’ and wants ‘victims’ to trigger destabilisation ahead of the October 2 municipal elections.
He says that the GD had received the information on ‘planned provocations’ from the UNM members.
Kobakhidze has ‘categorically warned’ the UNM to change its mind and act in a proper way.
The opposition says that the ruling party is engaged with ‘recovering its inability’ to run the country and the ‘fact that state agencies are busy with illegal surveillance.’
