Head of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party Irakli Kobakhidze says that ex-PM Giorgi Gakharia’s ‘refusal to test for drugs actually indicates his problems with drugs.’

He said that the initiative of incumbent mayor Kakha Kaladze, all candidates in the municipal race to test for drugs, was easy to follow if the candidate did not consume drugs.

Gakharia, who served as PM under GD, stated last week that he is ready to test for drugs abroad because he had information ‘on a provocation against him’ if he tested for drugs at Tbilisi Forensics Bureau.

The Forensics Bureau has condemned Gakharia’s statement and accused him of discrediting its activities. The opposition has asked the GD if Gakharia really consumes drugs, then why was it hiding it when he had taken several top posts under GD, including premiership and country’s interior minister.

PM Garibashvili says that Gakharia ‘has turned into the puppet’ of Georgia’s former president Mikheil Saakashvili.

Gakharia states that he and his For Georgia party are being attacked because both the ruling party and the opposition are afraid of their growing rating.
