The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) MP Irakli Zarkua says that the Georgian government took the 100 million USD loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) because it was the position of the 2019 loan from the bank.

Taking the loan comes shortly after the Georgian government refused to take the second portion of the EU’s 150 million euro loan.

The government had cited the ‘growing economy’ and the country’s wish to gradually cover its foreign debt as reasons behind the refusal.

The EU said that Georgia may not receive the loan at all because of ‘unfulfilled judiciary reforms.’

Zarkua says that the Georgian government refused to take several loans because of ‘improvements’ in the state economy.
