Orthodox Christians across Georgia are marking Mtskhetoba-Svetitskhovloba today, a celebration honoring the historical significance of Mtskheta, the country’s ancient capital, and the revered Svetitskhoveli Cathedral.

Located approximately 20 kilometers northwest of Tbilisi, Svetitskhoveli Cathedral holds a special place in Georgian Orthodox tradition as the reputed resting place of Christ’s mantle. The cathedral is not only a major spiritual center but also a site where numerous Georgian monarchs have been crowned and buried.

The annual event draws thousands of worshippers and visitors to Mtskheta, where they participate in religious services and cultural activities, reflecting on the city’s deep historical and religious heritage.

Today is an official day-off in the country, marking the date.
