Georgia has completed the second, sectoral part of the EU questionnaire, containing about 2,300 questions, earlier than scheduled and will hand it to the European Union representation to Georgia on May 10, three days earlier than a deadline, Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili said on Friday.
The PM has thanked all state agencies for ensuring “maximal efforts” to “effectively fill the questionnaire,” which is an initial step on Georgia’s membership to the bloc.
Georgia handed the first part of the questionnaire to the EU on May 2, containing 369 questions on political and economic issues.
Both parts of the questionnaire have been made public due to high interest in them.
Georgia and Moldova applied for EU membership on March 3, while Ukraine submitted an application shortly after Russia invaded the country, on February 28.
Ukraine and Moldova have already handed completed questionnaires to the EU.
The European Commission will make a report based on the questionnaires and present it allegedly in June.
The report will be used by the EU to decide whether or not to grant the three countries a candidate country status.
Initially Georgia had plans to apply for EU membership by 2024. However, Russia’s war in Ukraine has accelerated the process.
