Georgia will not attend the second meeting of the so-called 3+3 format proposed by Turkey and Iran in 2020 which includes Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia to address regional security issues.
The first meeting of the format was held in Russia in December, while the following meeting will take place in Turkey. Georgian Ambassador to Turkey Giorgi Janjgava says that Georgia is firm in its position not to participate in the format.
He said that Georgia takes Turkey and Azerbaijan as its strategic partners and Armenia as a good and historic neighbor. However, Russia is a country which occupies 20 percent of the Georgian territory.
After the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which is a landlocked region in southwest Azerbaijan near the southeastern border of Armenia, in 2020 Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan put forward the idea of launching a six-nation platform that includes the cooperation of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Russia and Iran in order to ensure stability and peace in the region.
