Georgia holding municipal elections today

Municipal elections are underway in Georgia. Voters will elect 2,068 members of 64 city councils and 64 mayors. Polling stations opened at 08:00.
3,664 polling stations have been opened across the country.
Nine polling stations opened in prisons and 70 special so-called Covid polling stations have been set up throughout the country, where individuals under coronavirus quiatantive and isolation will be able to vote.
3,497,345 citizens of Georgia are eligible to vote in the race.
According to the Central Election Commission, a total of 239 mayoral candidates are registered in 64 municipalities.
In five self-governing cities – Tbilisi, Rustavi, Kutaisi, Poti, Batumi – 40 candidates are running for mayor, of which only in the capital – 16, in the other four self-governing cities – 24, and in self-governing communities – 199 mayoral candidates.
There are 2,771 majoritarian candidates nominated by various parties or initiative groups to run in 64 city councils across the country.
43 political parties are participating in the elections.
