Georgia’s new Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili, who was appointed to the post earlier today, holds the highest Polish award – the Order of the Cross – handed by the country’s President Andrzej Duda back in 2021, during visiting Tbilisi.
Duda stated then that Darchiashvili, who was Georgia’s Ambassador to Poland between 2012 and 2014, contributed much for Poland and had made closer ties between Georgia and his country.
Darchiashvili has chaired the Administration of the Government of Georgia since 2021.
Previously he served in the country’s Municipal Development Fund and the Ministry of Infrastructure.
As the new FM, he has replaced David Zalkaliani in the role who will be appointed Georgia’s Ambassador to the US.
