Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, held a meeting with the British Ambassador to Georgia, Gareth Ward on July 10, to discuss the deepening economic partnership between the two countries.
According to the Ministry of Economy, the meeting emphasized the positive momentum in bilateral trade and investment across key sectors such as trade, transport and logistics, finance, tourism, and civil aviation.
In 2024, bilateral trade between Georgia and the United Kingdom reached $170 million, marking a 7% increase compared to the same period last year. Georgian exports to the UK surged by 43%, and UK foreign direct investment into Georgia totaled $448 million, highlighting growing investor confidence.
Kvrivishvili stressed the importance of enhancing business ties and encouraging greater interaction between the private sectors of both countries. She emphasized the need for the two governments to support joint projects by facilitating networking opportunities, including more frequent business forums and trade missions.
The meeting also underscored the significance of the UK-Georgia Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, particularly the free trade agreement that supports expanded trade and economic collaboration.
Kvrivishvili highlighted a major development in air connectivity: the launch of the first direct flights between Georgia and the United Kingdom in early 2025 by British Airways and easyJet, which has given a significant boost to economic ties, especially in tourism. In the first two quarters of 2025, the number of UK visitors to Georgia increased by 26%.
Deputy Minister of Economy Genadi Arveladze also participated in the meeting.
