The Georgian Foreign Ministry has condemned Kremlin’s decision to recognise Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk regions as independent states, saying that the move is ‘flagrant violation’ of fundamental principles of international law and repeats the scenario of Russian invasion of

Georgia’s Tskhinvali region back in 2008 and subsequent recognition of the country’s Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions as independent republics.

“Georgia is following with concern the latest developments around Ukraine which pose yet another serious challenge for European and global security,” said the ministry.

“Georgia unequivocally supports Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. We express hope that the international community will react strictly to the move,” the ministry noted.

The US and European states say that the response will be ‘swift and firm.’
