Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday underlined the importance of strengthening ties with China, saying joint initiatives and projects would further deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Speaking at an event marking the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II, Kobakhidze congratulated Chinese Ambassador Zhou Qian and the Chinese people on the occasion, stressing China’s contribution to shaping the post-war international order.

“Today China serves as an example for all civilised nations as a state focused on progress, modernisation, and development, while strengthening global peace,” Kobakhidze said.

He emphasised Georgia’s commitment to its “close and dynamic partnership” with Beijing, saying “our friendship is based on mutual respect, trust, and shared priorities”.

“Elevating Georgia-China relations to a strategic level reflects the depth of our common interests. Georgia once again reaffirms its firm commitment and full readiness to enhance cooperation across all areas. I am confident our joint initiatives and projects will strengthen this partnership and deliver significant results,” the Prime Minister noted.

Highlighting the role of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Middle Corridor in strengthening connectivity and trade, Kobakhidze said bilateral cooperation in trade agreements, simplified visa regimes, and joint infrastructure and logistics investments had already reinforced Georgia’s role in regional transit.
