Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili, who is attending a high-level conference in Poland today to raise funds for Ukraine, has condemned Russia’s ”gross military aggression against Ukraine” and stated that the Georgian authorities had allocated seven million dollars to support 28,000 Ukrainian refugees currently in Georgia.

He also said that Tbilisi provided 500 tons of humanitarian aid for the war-torn country, more than 190 foreign states.

“We have mobilized all our resources to alleviate the consequences of this devastating war. We have never refused to support our historical partners and friends in Ukraine. We stand firmly by the international community and express our full solidarity with Ukraine,” Garibashvili said.

“We will continue to support Ukraine in both political and practical terms, in bilateral and multilateral formats,” Garibashvili added.

Garibashvili suggested that Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine “is a clear and blatant violation of fundamental principles and norms of international law as well as the UN Charter.”

“The consequences of the war in Ukraine will define the future architecture of European security and lay grounds for a new security framework for the region and beyond. The war in Ukraine and a major humanitarian crisis in the region require rapid actions from the international community,” Garibashvili stated.

Co-hosted by Mateusz Morawiecki, Prime Minister of Poland and Magdalena Andersson, Prime Minister of Sweden, in partnership with Charles Michel, President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, the conference serves to mobilize substantial pledges to support the UN humanitarian response in Ukraine and to discuss further steps towards supporting Ukraine’s efforts to handle the economic challenges created by the war.

The UN estimates that more than 12 million people are in need of urgent humanitarian aid, including food, medical supplies and shelter.
