Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili pledged earlier today that the Georgian Dream (GD) authorities will ensure their own accommodations for 13,000 IDPs over the following three-four years.
“Many IDPs have already had their accommodations legalized. 6,000 IDPs will be given houses within the ‘house in the village’ state programme, while new flats will be built for 7,000 IDPs in the following three to four years,” Garibashvili said.
The issue of providing housing to IDP families in Georgia has been an issue for decades. Some of them live in rented accommodation, while others live in heavily damaged buildings.
Georgia has thousands of IPDs from the country’s Russian-occupied Tskhinvali and Abkhazia regions.
