Mamuka Mdinaradze, executive secretary of Georgia’s ruling party Georgian Dream, has stressed that statements from foreign intelligence agencies should be understood in the context of each country’s own interests, following claims by Russia’s FSB that Ukrainian intelligence had attempted another attack on the Crimea Bridge via Georgia.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, Mdinaradze said he could not confirm or deny the FSB’s report, but cautioned that similar claims had been made in the past and should not be taken at face value.
“I cannot rule anything out. Every country’s security services, including Russia’s – the occupier of around 20% of our territory – have their own interests, and I cannot decipher them. It may be true or not. This version cannot be dismissed,” he said.
He added that countries, whether occupiers, allies, or so-called friends, acted primarily in their own interests:
“We must assume that every country acts in its own interest and does not think about you or your country. We need to take care of ourselves and understand this,” Mdinaradze said.
Mdinaradze declined to speculate on Russia’s motives in the reported incident.
