The State Security Service of Georgia has arrested two Georgian citizens for the illegal purchase and storage of firearms and ammunition as part of an ongoing investigation into terrorist activities.

A special operation was conducted simultaneously at two locations in the city of Batumi. Authorities seized automatic firearms, pistols, hand grenades, symbolic flags of the terrorist organization Islamic State, and various other pieces of evidence crucial to the investigation from the residences of the suspects, SSS said on Thursday.

The ongoing investigation stipulates imprisonment for three to six years and 10 to 17 years, respectively. Concurrently, counter-terrorist measures are actively underway to ascertain the detained individuals’ connections to the terrorist organization “Islamic State,” according to the State Security Service.
