The 2021 report of the Georgian State Security Service (GSSS) says that Russia still remains a major threat to the country’s security due to continued occupation of Georgian territories, creeping occupation and other destructive activities.
The report said that illegally deployed Russian heavy weapons and troops remained in the occupied territories of Georgia, while intensive military exercises and the process of militarization were underway.
“The policy of annexation of the occupied territories of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali by the Russian occupation forces continued during the reporting period,” said the report.
GSSS stated that various forces related to “destructive external actors” were active last year.
The report said that the former used various platforms (including social networks, websites, Internet TV, TV broadcasting) to campaign against the pro-Western course.
“They were deliberately spreading the damaging ideology via various channels,” said the agency, noting that the people connected with the “destructive external actors” also used the resources of Georgian and foreign citizens to reach their goals.
The agency says that an investigation was launched in 12 cases related to the activities of the individuals.
