The Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) has fined Georgian Water and Power Ltd with 75,000 GEL in favor of the state budget for violating the license conditions. “The basis of the fine is the irregular reading of the meter reading by the company and the lump sum payment of taxes to the citizens, which is a violation of the rules.
According to the complaints of the citizens submitted to the GNERC, Georgian Water and Power LLC received readings not on a monthly basis, but at certain intervals, for several months and / or years, due to which the subscribers had to pay several months or years of bills at once.
In addition, users complained that the actual indications taken by the company in 2021 also included the volumes of water consumed in 2020, which were calculated by the Georgian Water and Power Ltd with the new tariff and not with the tariff in force until January 1, 2021.
A survey conducted by the GNERC found that similar violations occurred in the majority of Georgian Water and Power LLC users. “The company has been informed that in case of elimination of violations or their recurrence, the GNERC will discuss the company to be fined again” – the GNERC said.
