Nino Kalandadze, the Chair of the Chavchavadze Center and former Foreign Minister under the United National Movement Government, on Monday claimed that Georgia’s political system was “fully controlled by an oligarchic regime”, in reference to the ruling Georgian Dream party and its honorary chair Bidzina Ivanishvili
In her comments, Kalandadze called for “intensified democratic resistance” and international solidarity.
“This battle is black and white,” she said, warning that “the actual power is 100% in the hands of the regime.” Kalandadze further described the current state of governance as authoritarian in nature, accusing the ruling elite of monopolizing institutions and suppressing democratic alternatives.
Speaking about the need for a coordinated response, she said that while unity among opposition forces was not a cure-all, it was critical to counterbalance the “regime’s grip on power.”
“We cannot interfere with them with our bare hands. What we can do is to make our international consolidation complete,” she added, highlighting what she described as “unprecedented alignment” among Georgia’s international partners in support of democratic forces.
