The Georgian opposition party, United National Movement (UNM), has said that Ukraine’s success in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity would also represent a victory for Georgia.

Speaking on behalf of former President Mikheil Saakashvili, UNM political secretary Giorgi Baramidze said on Monday the party’s visit to Kyiv aimed not only to celebrate Ukraine’s Independence Day but also to express solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

“Ukraine’s victory is Georgia’s victory. We are confident that Ukraine will establish a just and lasting peace, strengthen the region, and counter Russian influence, including Putin’s fifth column in Georgia,” Baramidze said.

He added that the visit was an opportunity to reaffirm the support of Saakashvili, the UNM, and many Georgian citizens for Ukraine during a critical time in the region.

Baramidze further claimed that standing with Ukraine was not only a symbolic gesture but a statement of shared values and regional security interests. “We want to tell them that we are with them,” he said.
